Benalla Rural City Council offers immunisation clinics that are open to all members of the community.
All vaccines on the National Immunisation Program Schedule (Immunisation Schedule) are free of charge.
Some vaccines are not on the Immunisation Schedule but are free to certain groups. For example, free immunisations are provided under the National Immunisation Program for people over 65 years.
Bookings are not required, but if you need a vaccine that is not on the Immunisation Schedule, including the Influenza, Whooping Cough and Hepatitis A and B vaccines, you should call the service two weeks in advance to ensure the vaccine is available. The Council's immunisation service can be contacted on 1800 655 360.
What to bring:
- Medicare card
- Vaccination record or your child’s health record book
- Payment if required
Immunisation sessions are held on the first Monday of the month.
10am-11.30am at Benalla Community Care, 45 Coster Street, Benalla, between 10am and 11.30am.
12.45pm-1.30pm at Waminda Neighbourhood House at 19 Ballintine Street, Benalla.
You can find the current immunisation schedule on the Victorian Department of Health website.
School Entry Immunisation Certificate
It is a legal requirement to present a School Entry Immunisation Certificate when starting primary school in Victoria.
Children who are not immunised still require the certificate in order to present it to their school. If your child is not immunised, you will need to provide records to obtain the certificate. You can provide:
- A statutory declaration stating that you have a conscientious objection to immunising your child
- A medical declaration from your doctor providing medical reasons for not immunising your child
Medical and statutory declaration forms are available from the Council’s Customer Service Centre.
To obtain a school entry immunisation certificate or a record of immunisation history, go to the Australian Immunisation Register website or call the Australian Immunisation Register on 1800 653 809.
School Immunisation Program
The Benalla Rural City Council’s immunisation service visits all secondary schools annually. Parents need to provide their consent or refusal for their child to access the service.
The service is free to secondary school students. The vaccines are available to students from Year 7 and immunise against Chickenpox (varicella), Human Papillomavirus (HPV), Diphtheria, tetanus and pertussis.
For more information about immunisations, see the Victorian Department of Health’s information about the Immunisation Schedule.
For information about vaccinations, including the school immunisation program, contact the Council’s immunisation service on 1800 655 360.
The Council can provide immunisation on-site at your workplace. The cost is dependent on the vaccine required and the quantity of immunisations required.
